»Pieces for collective change« from Slovenia

Radio Študent from Ljubljana has prepared a selection of recently released Slovenian music for the new, 164th IndieRE episode.

Since it's the end of the year, we're looking back, searching for music we haven't presented yet including music that has just been released. In this episode we'll browse through creations prepared by mainly young musicians working mainly in electronics, jazz and some rock and we'll also include a blast from the past that has been released nearly 40 years after its first conception.

We'll start off with Etceteral, an audiovisual jazz and electronics trio and their third album Kimatika released through Glitterbeat Records. Then we'll move to a promising new musician on the Slovenian scene, Veronika Sivi, a neosoul and R&B solo artist who has up till now released six songs, but has not yet released an album. Next up will listen to a song by G04T, an electronic producer who has recently released their debut solo album Fragments through the label Kamizdat, and a song by Bregove dere, a collective of five musicians, one of the chosen bands for Radio Študent's Klubski maraton selection of 2023, that has now self-released its debut LP Zev

Next up will be a remastered release of the original archival recordings from Slovenia's cult funk/new romantic supergroup Marcus 5. Their self-titled album is a collection of rare demos from the early '80s, their first-ever official release, that has reached us through Matrix Music Records. We'll slow down a bit with a new project, duo Ceelo Brown and their self-released debu EP Nič novega pod soncem, and then proceed with a solo electronics producer Ribeiroia who released her debut album Limerence through a boutique record label Pagat. We'll listen so some more electronics, a song from the duo of Nina Lang and Peter Kalinski who call themselves Stagnat and have released a new album Chemical Gardens through the musicians' own label Defragment. With lowlander we'll stay in a similar vibe or sound, perhaps just a bit lighter, less dark. The chosen song is included on this solo producer's new album titled Please don't released through the label Clockwork Voltage.

Slowing down again we flow into magically expressed feelings of Nejc Pipp, a gifted singer-songwriter and semi-producer who released a special project, a sort of compilation of him working with different musicians. The album Pippong is a game of table tennis between him and a selection of producers whose work he admires, released by the record label rx:tx. The mood will darken a bit when we deep dive into the void with (V) or Void as this anonymous musician calls himself. The featured song is his first released endeavour and has swept us of our feet with beautiful lyrics and melancholic melodies. We'll conclude this episode with the everchanging project of the pianist Rok ZalokarZhlehtet, a project that has now transformed into an octet. The eight musicians have released one of this year’s best Slovenian albums and best Slovenian jazz album titled Pieces for Collective Change through the label Jazz Cerkno Records.
